A Boat Ride On The Mighty Brahmaputra - Guwahati

source: http://www.wildabouttheworld.com

Brahmaputra River flows through the heart of Assam and is the most important river here. Guwahati is situated on the banks of the Brahmaputra which adds its beauty to this wonderful place. The ghats situated along the banks have become popular commerce places with bazaars and people from other places come here to sell mainly agricultural and farm products.

The main attraction of the Brahmaputra here is the Beauty itself. The setting sun, painting the waters with its changing hues until it is swallowed by the mighty river, is something which can thrill even the most inert of hearts. No one who ever comes to this place should miss this. It is pure joy.

The Brahmaputra is also called as 'Luhit' or 'Burha Luit' in Assam. It is derived from the word 'Lohit' means 'blood' in Assamese. This name is believed to be related to the story of Parashuram described above. The river Brahmaputra and it's fertile valley is the lifeline of Assam. It's is the symbol of power and greatness for the people of Assam.

Travel Guwahati And Enjoy A Unique Experience

#1. Welcome to Guwahati

Yeah, the first thing for you to do is to be here!! The lucky ones who have grown up and lived most of their life in Guwahati, they can ignore this one.

Guwahati, formerly know as Pragjyotispura, is the capital city of Assam and lies between the banks of Brahmaputra and the foothills of Shillong Plateau. Guwahati is the major commercial and educational hub of North-East India. The city is a major center for cultural activities and sports in the North Eastern region and for the administrative and political activities of Assam. The city is an important regional hub for transportation.

In short one can say that Guwahati is the "gateway" to the north-east. From a "google map" point of view it may not look like an interesting place at first, but suppose you are "pegman" and let yourself drop onto the busy streets, the beautiful riverside, the scenic beauty of the city from the hills or the surrounding nature, I am sure there will be no one who will not agree with me that Guwahati has a unique beauty of its own.
